F.A.C.T: Reclaiming Our Agricultural Roots and Building a Sustainable Future

We are excited to launch the first initiative focused on promoting agriculture in Eastern Alachua County with an emphasis on preserving our heritage, protecting the environment, and creating a sustainable future for farms and farming in our region. This effort is about more than cultivation and produce, it’s about building a stronger farming community rooted in history, agriculture, and sustainability.

Our mission focuses on expanding agriculture outputs, supporting our farmers, and shining a bright light on their importance to our community. We aim to grow our local economy by promoting agricultural production and practices that were recognized historically throughout Florida for robust agricultural growth within and surrounding historic communities like Melrose, Hawthorne, Windsor, Earleton, Orange Heights, Waldo, Lochloosa, and Micanopy.

F.A.C.T: Working for the Future of Farms and Farming in Alachua County

Agriculture is Economic Growth
Farming and farmlands demand little, produce much, and are often overlooked in the daily activity of local governments challenged by unrelenting urban pressures for rapid change. Agricultural commerce also grows but with less noise and publicity. F.A.C.T. will show how expanding markets, increasingly diverse crops, and agricultural resources work together to support robust local markets. Recognizing that farmers strengthen the local economy and create jobs is essential to ensuring that agriculture remains the heart of our community and preserves the rich agricultural history that has defined our region for generations.

Preservation of Land and Community
We are committed to farming, land conservation, ensuring sustainable agriculture, and expanding local produce from local family farms by working closely with Alachua County representatives to amplify your voice and assure that farms thrive for future generations.

Sustainable Agriculture
We collaborate with local farmers to promote environmentally responsible practices that protect the aquifer, safeguard ecosystems, and conserve natural resources. Sustainability is at the core of everything we do.

Together, we will ensure that agriculture not only survives but flourishes—benefiting the environment, the economy, and future generations. By protecting our natural resources, promoting sustainable farming, and honoring our rich agricultural history, we will create a brighter, greener, and more resilient future for Eastern Alachua County.

We invite you to join us in Farming Alachua County Together, as we continue to grow a vibrant agricultural community that feeds our families and communities, preserves our heritage, and nurtures the land we cherish for generations to come.

Sincerely,
The Founding Members of F.A.C.T.
